Ted Hernandez

Ted Hernandez, is a Wiyot Tribal member who resides on the Table Bluff Reservation. Ted has sat on Tribal Council for the past 19 years. He has served as the Tribal Council Chair since 2012. During his time on council, Ted has helped, along with many important tribal members, return Tuluwat Island (the center of the Wiyot world), back to the Wiyot tribe. Ted has been key in restoring cultural practices and traditional tribal ceremonies. His understanding of the importance of traditions and cultural ways to each individual tribal member's Native identity, is what facilitated the Wiyot tribe's determination to awaken traditional tribal practices in use today. Through his journey of helping with awakening tribal traditions and culture, Ted has also taken on the role of cultural bearer and is one of the Tribe’s Dance leaders. Ted understands the importance that these traditions continue to be practiced and carried on by future generations of Wiyot Tribal members. With his cultural knowledge and experience, Ted will be a content advisor and will ensure that the project represents the Tribe in both an accurate and respectful way. He will also share his cultural knowledge through interviews and viewing rough cut stages of the project.
